Why Evolution Is True

Well, that’s true if you judge from the 2012 Texas Republican party platform. Granted, party platforms aren’t usually turned into legislation, but they’re meant to appeal to voters.  What appeals to Texas Republicans?  This, from page 12 of the document:

Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

Nope, wouldn’t want to do that.  There’s more:

  1. I sent this out to all my fellow Texans, it is sick and shameful. I hang my head, I weep, I gnash my teeth. This makes me want to find GOP members and beat them about the head and shoulders with this piece of tripe (after I have wiped my ass with it).

  2. This is has to be bad dream. I cannot believe people would actually put this in writing. To not believe in teaching critical thinking skills? To provide more context, let’s frame the issue – scientists in Houston had to delete references to climate change and global warming in a report to the Governor on why Galveston is slowly being consumed by the Gulf of Mexico. Texas has a huge drought problem, yet they frack away at the expense of 2 – 5 million gallons of water per fracking well which cannot be reused as the water is poisoned. The Governor when running for President wanted to do away with the EPA, which is about the most irresponsible thing a President could do. Unfortunately, there are many more….
