Holy Moldy! Family Sees Image of Jesus in Moldy Shower, Seriously.

Resemblance: The image, concentrated among other blotches of buildup, shows what resident Chyanna Richards believes to be a face, beard and cloak

A family in Splendora claims they have a holy vision inside their home, an image of Jesus created by mold in a bathroom. They say the image is giving them strength.

We’ve all seen the stories: a Virgin Mary sighting in a grilled cheese sandwich, in the side of a tree, or Jesus’ face on a tortilla. We guess you’ve never seen one like this — inside a shower…

…Richards doesn’t know if it’s mold or mildew or what, but she knows in her heart what she sees: a likeness of Jesus, it’s presence not without meaning.

“Maybe it means something. Maybe look into yourself and see if you need to change something in your life,” she said.

(Um, ya think? Maybe it means to clean that nasty-ass mold out of your shower!)

The mold started a couple of months ago while Thomas George, who also lives in the house, was in prison.

“He’s just watching over us to make sure nothing wrong happens or I get in trouble and go back…It gives me inspiration just to do better,” George said.

One woman who lives in the home here has HIV. Her family says she has been doing better since they discovered that moldy likeness of Jesus in their shower just a few months ago.

(WTF??? MONTHS ago? They have a baby and an immuno-compromised person living in the house and they left that mold there for MONTHS?)

Sign: A mouldy image of Jesus has appeared on the side of a shower in Texas causing its residents to see it as a sign

I just want to take this moment to pray to dear, sweet, moldy Jesus… Oh, Moldy Jesus, please grant these people the gift of bleach, to eradicate your moldy visage from their nasty bathroom. Please protect that little baby from the ignorance of her family, who know not what they do. Oh, Holy Moldy Jesus, in your infinite mildewy wisdom, please advise that woman that she has a terrible case of camel-toe that can lead to a yeasty surprise or at very least itchiness and irritation. Thank you, Moldy Jesus…Amen.

I hope I’m not going to hell for this! I thought it looked more like the killer from Scream, but maybe that’s just me.

North Carolina tries to outlaw sea-level rise

Sea level changes getting you down? Just outlaw it!! Oh, NC…I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry!

North Carolina is no stranger to the “if you dislike it then you should have made a law against it” model of legislation, but this is extreme: The state General Assembly’s Replacement House Bill 819 would rule that scientists are not allowed to accurately predict sea-level rise. By all legal calculations, the sea level will now rise eight inches by the end of the century. Sure, so far models have predicted an increase of more than three feet, but if they keep that shit up, they’re going to JAIL.

Coal Industry Pays Fake Activists $50 To Wear Pro-Coal Shirts At Public Hearing | ThinkProgress

Apparently unable to find real activists, the coal industry paid astroturfers $50 to wear pro-coal t-shirts at an Environmental Protection Agency hearing yesterday.

The EPA hearings, held yesterday in Chicago and Washington, D.C., were focused on the agency’s first-ever carbon standards for new power plants. The industry has adamantly opposed these standards, as well as standards on mercury — a pollutant that even Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) admits is harmful.

This year, coal is throwing around its weight by spending tens of millions of dollars on media advertising and political contributions.

Coal is also engaging in fake advocacy campaigns, known as astroturfing. In a Craigslist ad found by the Environmental Law & Policy Center in Chicago, a coal group promised participants $50 to “wear a t-shirt in support of an energy project.” Upon further digging, the Sierra Club blog pieced together much of the deleted Craigslist ad…

Federal court strikes down key part of federal law banning same-sex marriage – CNN.com

A key part of the law banning federal recognition of same-sex marriage was struck down as unconstitutional by a U.S. appeals court Thursday.

The Defense of Marriage Act — known as DOMA — defines marriage for federal purposes as unions exclusively between a man and woman.

At issue is whether the federal government can deny tax, health and pension benefits to same-sex couples in states where they can legally marry. The ruling is a boost for gay rights advocates and the Obama administration, which in a rare move, has refused to defend a federal law in court.

“If we are right in thinking that disparate impact on minority interests and federalism concerns both require somewhat more in this case than almost automatic deference to Congress’ will, this statute fails that test,” said the three judge panel.

The 1st Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, based in Boston, did not rule on the federal law’s other key provision: that states that do not allow same-sex marriages cannot be forced to recognize such unions performed in other states. Traditionally, marriages in one jurisdiction are considered valid across the country.

DOMA was enacted in 1996, when Hawaii was considering legalizing same-sex marriage.

Marriage between two males or two females is legal in the District of Columbia and six states — Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. It is set to become legal in Washington state next week and in Maryland in January, but in each state the implementation could be delayed by opponents placing the question on the November ballot.

Many other states have legalized domestic partnerships and civil unions for such couples, including New Jersey, Illinois, Delaware, Rhode Island and Hawaii, a step designed in most cases to provide the same rights of marriage under state law…

Growing Celery Plants From Your Store-Bought Celery

Sweet! I’m going to try this!

Liberals, Gays and Fetuses, Oh My! That Which Distracts Us Keeps Us in Servitude.

Another “man of God” has called for the death penalty for gays. Pastor Curtis Knapp of New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas declares:

“They should be put to death….Oh, so you’re saying we should go out and start killing them, no?’ — I’m saying the government should. They won’t, but they should.

You say, ‘Oh, I can’t believe you, you’re horrible. You’re a backwards neanderthal of a person.’ Is that what you’re calling scripture? Is God a neanderthal, backwards in his morality? Is it His word or not? If it’s His word, he commanded it. It’s His idea, not mine. And I’m not ashamed of it…

He said put them to death…Shall the church drag them in? No, I’m not say that. The church has not been given the power of the sort; the government has. But the government ought to. You got a better idea? A better idea than God?”

I read “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” several years ago because I was curious about how regular people could support the genocide of millions of Jews. This is how. Humans are capable of all manner of violence and hatred, especially when using justification from a higher power. The “enemy” is dehumanized and vilified, making it easier to condone their extermination. People don’t want to be associated with the enemy, because they may endanger themselves. In order to deal with the suffering of others, people harden their hearts and internalize all of the justifications offered to them so that they can live with their inaction and complicity. Check out this MENSA candidate justifying NC pastor Charles Worley’s call for gays to be placed in concentration camps:

Embarrassing! When faced with the logical ridiculousness of gays “dying out” because they can’t reproduce, she rolls her eyes and sneers to mask her discomfort. She makes the argument that Worley is not being literal. I fail to see how you can take these people’s words as anything less than literally. The only encouraging thing is that these haters lack the balls to actually put their ideas into practice. They would like “the government” to do it, so they can be removed from the ugly reality of what they are espousing.

How can Christians condone something like THIS from Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Greensburg, Indiana:

Aw, how cute…a baby being indoctrinated into hate. This is how it begins. The crowd cheers this precious child’s song of intolerance. God does not live here. This is a garish fun house mirror image of “God is love.” If there is a hell, Pastor Knapp and Charles Worley belong there, as does every Christian who hears hate speech and does not condemn it. People who allow such men to speak for them are just as guilty as they are.

Pastors Worley and Knapp are small men who personify those more powerful and shadowy players in our own government. Their tactics are a reflection of the methods employed by government to keep the flock in check. We are all sheep, whether God’s or The Man’s. Again and again, religious and political leaders who shape what it means to be moral and just are found wanting by their own standards. Yet we continue to allow them to tell us what to do and how to think.

People of reason and sanity may believe that what happened in Nazi Germany could never happen here. It most certainly can and has happened here. Only a couple of generations ago we allowed Japanese American citizens of this country to be stripped of their property and placed them in concentration camps. An entire nation stood by and allowed it to happen. “The Japs” were an enemy easy to identify. Americans of German descent looked like everyone else, so they got a pass. Today, Muslims, brown people and gays are “the enemy.”

We have traded many of our freedoms in the name of protection. The Patriot Act, invasive TSA pat downs, wireless wiretapping, and indefinite imprisonment are all violations of our rights as Americans. Many of us are okay with these things, because we are not terrorists. It could never happen to us. No way could we find ourselves falsely accused and thrown into a gulag without benefit of a lawyer or a judge. If you believe this, you are fooling yourself. We imprison more of our citizens per capita than any other other country in the world, yet call this the land of the free.

Every single time gay rights have been put to a popular vote, Americans have chosen to strip our citizens of basic civil rights. We have no idea the slippery slope we are on when we do this. It is only a matter of time before we become “the enemy.” When we base our laws on Christian dogma, we are no different from the Taliban. Some are so frightened that “creeping Sharia” laws are going to endanger America, but seem blind to the fact that we are doing just what we are afraid of. Intolerance is evident on a daily basis here in the “melting pot.”

American politics is designed to keep us divided and distracted from what is truly important. As long as we have a clearly defined threat to our vision of what it means to be an American, we ignore what truly threatens us. This is why we have always been involved in a conflict of some type somewhere in the world. This is why the most pressing issues in the media are social issues like abortion and gay rights. We will never all agree on these things, so elections become about these things.

To distract us from the oligarchy of corporate greed that has infiltrated every corner of government, we blame the poor and the elderly for our economic woes. Days are getting hotter, the weather more extreme, but we continue to deny it the evidence that we can see with our own eyes. It’s a liberal conspiracy, it’s HAARP, it’s chemtrails! We worry about gay sex and women’s reproductive choices, while the lords in both parties continue to enrich themselves and their supporters by suckling at the teat of taxpayers without notice. These are tried and true tactics that governments have employed since the dawn of civilization. Distract the rabble, let them eat high fructose corn syrup cake! The problem is that it is a unsustainable model of governing. Eventually the house of cards will fall, and society will fall with it.

Our own apathy and ignorance will hasten our demise. Being puppets on strings, we allow our masters to guide us by manipulating our own fears and prejudices. It’s such a simple plan, so insidious in nature, yet so easy to implement. The concept is so frightening, it’s much easier to ignore it than to open our eyes to the truth. Even those of us who see what’s going on often feel that the problem is too large to overcome. Survivalists are preparing for the apocalypse. Perhaps they are right and we are too far gone. Maybe the events already set in motion are impossible to reverse. We are all parties to our own oppression. Can we lift ourselves up from this miasma of self-deceit, or will we allow the puppet-masters to continue their avaricious and despicable reign?

We the People, Not We the Corporations | Move to Amend

We the People, Not We the Corporations

On January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons, entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government. Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions.

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law. In a democracy, the people rule.

We Move to Amend.

“. . . corporations have no consciences, no beliefs, no feelings, no thoughts, no desires. Corporations help structure and facilitate the activities of human beings, to be sure, and their ‘personhood’ often serves as a useful legal fiction. But they are not themselves members of “We the People” by whom and for whom our Constitution was established.”

~Supreme Court Justice Stevens, January 2010

via We the People, Not We the Corporations | Move to Amend.

Hawaii, New Mexico, and Vermont have passed calls for a constitutional amendment to establish that only human beings are people. Wisconsin, Washington, Minnesota, Alaska, and North Carolina on now considering a similar resolution in their state legislatures.

Why I Stopped Being a Right-Winger — Modern Conservatism Has Become a Form of Mass Hysteria | Tea Party and the Right | AlterNet

Gosh! When did I end up in bed with Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber? Could it be because I did specialize in blowing things up while serving my country for four years as an airborne combat engineer? I also watched human beings blown up. I had friends and Navy SEALs I was in battle with blown up. My own intestines exploded on the first of my four combat embeds, three in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Took seven operations to fix the plumbing. I later suffered other permanent injuries.

Yet now I find myself linked not only with the Unabomber, but also Charles Manson and Fidel Castro. Or so says the Chicago-based think tank the Heartland Institute, for which I’ve done work. Heartland erected billboards depicting the above three declaring: “I still believe in Global Warming. Do you?” Climate scientists now, evidently, share something in common with dictators and mass murderers. Reportedly bin Laden was scheduled to make such an appearance, too.

You see, I’ve published articles saying I do “believe in global warming.” Yes, I’ve also questioned the extent to which man-made gases have contributed to that warming and concluded that expenditures to reduce those emissions would be as worthless as they’d be horrifically expensive. No matter; just call me “Ted.” Or “Charlie.” Or “Fidel.”

How Does it Feel To Be Treated Like an Object? Ask D’Angelo.

Ladies, remember this video?

Oh, my GOODNESS! Not only is he a vision of sculpted perfection, his voice also melts every pussy within hearing distance. Excuse my vulgarity, but tell me I’m lying. He wails “how does it feel?” as you wonder what those chiseled arms would feel like beneath your fingertips. His voice transports you to heaven, but that sweaty torso makes you feel like sinning. Lawdamercy. Watch it again if you want to…Then feel SHAME, nasty bitches! Because D’Angelo lost his damn mind after making this video. Lusty ladies objectified him and subjected him to the same leering creepiness that we deal with on a regular basis. The catcalls at the construction site were switched up and amplified in a sold-out arena. Horny women were tossing their panties, their cash and their dignity up on the stage. D’Angelo was overwhelmed by their adoration and unnerved by the demands to “take it off!”

Once I saw the male review at a gay bar in town. I’ve never seen women act so incredibly insane before! Unlike at a female strip club, the ladies were allowed to touch the male dancers. They didn’t just touch them. They nearly ripped them to pieces! One poor dude was manhandled and scratched up so badly, he was left bawling in a corner with a shred of g-string hanging out of his butt crack.

So, D’Angelo was a sex god after that video came out. Obviously, they meant for him to make a sexual sensation, but it ended up making him feel like a piece of (choice) meat rather than the artist that he was. Eventually his career was derailed by drug and alcohol abuse.  He packed on weight and hid from the public eye for a dozen years. A few trips to rehab failed. A serious, drunken car accident nearly took his life. The son and grandson of Pentecostal preachers was set adrift and nearly destroyed by fame. As a black artist, he felt the immense pressure of those who came before him as well. So many young black stars have died young, or self-destructed just as they were coming into their own.

A part of me is thinking, “dude, you asked for it.” But as a woman, I know that I don’t “ask for it” simply by being attractive. How many times have I been called a “stuck-up bitch” when I didn’t turn my head to acknowledge a man who made sexually explicit comments to me? The aggression and the audacity made me feel threatened and demeaned. To view a person in a strictly sexual way strips them of their humanity. The person is reduced to a vessel, an object. To feel that your talents and your essence are secondary to your appearance and sexual utility is soul-crushing. For a young person, it can permanently alter their self-image.

According to a fascinating report by Amy Wallace in GQ, D’Angelo is making a comeback. At 38 years old, he is still looking fine, but wiser. He keeps his torso covered in Versace and seems to have finally found himself. His first live performance in over a decade is in a Pentecostal church in Stockholm. Wallace asks him, “Is your head straight?”

“Straight,” D’Angelo says, his eyes locked on mine. “Yes, my head is straight.” Just because you’re black, he adds, doesn’t mean you have to look or sound a certain way, “or, you know, act ignorant or what have you, whatever the fucking gatekeepers have us doing because they think that that’s the formula to make money. And a lot of motherfuckers, they just fall right into line.” D has a term for artists like this: “minstrelsy.” If he’s learned nothing, he’s learned this: He’s no minstrel.

Anyone who has ever felt they had to play a role can take a lesson from this story. Don’t play the minstrel. Don’t allow yourself to be reduced to tits and ass or chiseled abs. Physical beauty is nothing without the mind and spirit to animate that beauty. To allow others to deny that which makes us human is to sink into the abyss.

A User’s Guide To Smoking Pot With Barack Obama

Barry was quite the accomplished marijuana enthusiast back in high school and college. Excerpts from David Maraniss’ Barack Obama: The Story dealing with the elaborate drug culture surrounding the president when he attended Punahou School in Honolulu and Occidental College in Los Angeles. He inhaled. A lot.

via A User’s Guide To Smoking Pot With Barack Obama.

I’m sure Team Romney will try to capitalize on this book about young Obama during his school days. I like this side of him, though. “The Professor” used to party like the rest of us. I wish he would take more seriously efforts to legalize marijuana, given his affection for the weed in the past. On another note, I covet the Choomwagon!

This is a sweet VW. I want it.
