Reblogged from The World of Special Olympics:
The following is a guest post in the form of an open letter from Special Olympics athlete and global messenger John Franklin Stephens to Ann Coulter after this tweet during last night's Presidential debate.
Dear Ann Coulter,
Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?
My friend Stacey led me to this powerful letter. I hope that everyone reads it and understand that the word "retard" should never be used. Ann Coulter, author, speaker, pundit, should know better, but she has consistently proven herself a fool (a good word to show someone's stupidity and willful ignorance).
My husband and I have both worked with people with MR, autism, TBI, and mental illness. These wonderful people have enough challenges in this world. Find another word to express your anger and disdain. This words hurts, it shows ignorance, and it is just plain mean.

Thanks for sharing this story. I sent him a note as have many others. Take care and best wishes. BTG
What is stunning, even more than his letter is some of the ignorant responses.
